“Wild Hope” celebrates the world’s most endangered canid — the red wolf. The WNC Nature Center is part of a breeding and management program that aims to save this handsome, intelligent and social animal from extinction. In April of 2023, nine red wolf pups were born at the Center, with eight now almost fully grown. They are fun and inspiring to watch and have become a favorite painting subject.
With less than two dozen red wolves left in the wild, captive breeding programs like the one at the WNC Nature Center represent hope for the future of the species. Working together, perhaps we can turn "Wild Hope" into reality, and once again red wolves will flourish in the wild.
